Are you in need of a reset mama?
Sometimes we are so busy that we rush through month after month without taking the time to see what may or may no longer be working for us. To really sort through our mental load of ‘stuff to do’, the only way to truly cull what no longer serves us, is to take some time to evaluate.
Follow this five-step process to get you on your way!
Carve out space:
The first step in resetting and refreshing is creating space for self-reflection. We often find ourselves lacking time, strategies, or support to step off the treadmill and consider what truly brings us fulfilment and joy. It doesn’t require a massive overhaul of your schedule; instead, intentionally set aside a small window of time to reflect on your priorities, let go of what no longer serves you, and make room for your well-being.
*Make a cup of tea or coffee, sit down with a notepad (old school way!) and simply start listing the moments in your life that bring you joy, and a plan on how to get more of this!
Clarify priorities:
Once you’ve created that sacred space, clarify your priorities for the remainder of the year. Amidst the multitude of tasks and obligations, it’s crucial to take a step back and focus on what truly matters to you. Reflect on your professional and personal life, identify what is most important, and determine where you want to direct your time and energy. This process of clarity enables you to focus on what will make the most significant impact and fulfilment in your life.
*Stick post it notes around your home, fridge, bathroom mirror to remind yourself what your priorities are!
Release what no longer serves:
With clarified priorities in mind, it’s time to let go of what hinders your progress. Recognize that you can’t do it all, and that’s perfectly okay. Consider creating a stop-doing listβa powerful tool to free up time and energy. Reflect on tasks, commitments, or habits that no longer align with your priorities, and be willing to release them. Embrace the freedom that comes from shedding unnecessary burdens.
*Saying yes to everything (this includes carer related activities for our kids!) is a sure-fire way to burn out! What can go to make room for you? (We promise the world won’t end!)
Prioritise your well-being:
As you reset and refresh, remember to prioritise your own well-being. It’s common for women carers especially, to put their needs at the bottom of the list. However, intentional self-care is vital for your overall fulfilment and effectiveness. Focus on the essentials: getting sufficient sleep, nourishing your body, engaging in regular exercise, and carving out time for relaxation and restoration. By consciously tending to your well-being, you unlock your full potential.
*Regular exercise can also mean a 10min walk once a day. Just start small with what is achievable for you and don’t compare yourself to anyone else!
Ask for support:
Finally, don’t hesitate to ask for the support you need. We know this is hard as carers, as we sometimes feel all the responsibility of caring lies with us. And in some circumstances, it is extremely difficult to find someone to trust to help you. But please remember that asking for help is not a sign of weakness but a display of strength and self-awareness. Start with small asks and practice building your “asking muscle.” Remember to identify and articulate your own needs to effectively communicate them to others.
And as you embark on this journey of resetting and refreshing, remember that it’s a continuous process.
Take time regularly to revisit and realign with your priorities, making changes as needed. By nurturing yourself and aligning with your values, you will move forward with renewed energy and purpose, ready to embrace the remainder of the year.
